Course Description: The CFP® Certification Professional Education Program is an education program that prepares advisors to obtain the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ or CFP® certification. Founded by the College for Financial Planning in 1972, the CFP® certification is the nation’s premier comprehensive financial planning credential.

 

The CFP® certification education covers every aspect of personal financial planning followed by a comprehensive examination and signing of a statement of ethics. The certification is currently maintained and issued by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. with more than 78,000 active practitioners and 300 CFP Board-Registered Programs nationwide.

Course Details

How does the CFP® Certification Professional Education Program work?

The College’s professional designation programs all feature open enrollment. You can enroll and begin whenever you like. While we offer periodic live classes, these are completely optional and are available to all students at no additional charge.

 

When you enroll you will receive immediate access to the College’s exclusive online student portal. Within this portal you will find copies of your written study materials, streaming video lectures, downloadable MP3’s, interactive quizzes, and even access to live classes when they are in session. You will also be able to contact your professor with questions or issues.

 

All of these things are included with your enrollment and we pride ourselves on not charging for additional 3rd party books, online functionality, access to professors, etc.

The College’s CFP® Certification Professional Education Program consists of 5 courses (each with a final examination) followed by a comprehensive financial plan development course.

Upon completion of the program and all other requirements, students are eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination. Compete details on the requirements for the CFP® Certification can be found at the CFP Board website.

Course Topics:

Students must successfully pass the program’s five course examinations and the financial plan development course within three years of their enrollment date. Final exams can be administered at our approved testing centers: PSI,  Prometric, or ISO Quality Testing. The first attempts at each of the 5 course examinations are included as part of your enrollment. Subsequent examination attempts are $100 each. Students are required to attempt the examination for their current course every 6 months in order to stay active. Full testing details can be found here.

  • CFPE 506: Financial Plan Development

    Starting on 1/1/12, CFP Board began requiring to complete a financial plan development course. CFPE506 meets this requirement by covering the development of a financial plan from initial client meeting to monitoring the plan. Special emphasis is placed on identification of financial issues and integration of practical recommendations to improve the client’s financial situation.

     

    In addition, the course reviews some components of each of the various aspects of a financial plan, including analysis of cash flow and balance sheet, income tax calculations, survivor needs, disability income issues, health issues, long-term care needs, property and casualty risk management, education, other goals, retirement planning, estate planning, investment analysis, and portfolio construction.

The next live course will be offered during these dates. Remember that you can enroll and begin at any time using pre-recorded course lectures.
