Professor David Mannaioni: Property and casualty insurance is an area that is often overlooked by most clients and planners. This webinar covers risk management issues that fall into three categories of the property and casualty area. The first category is property risks, primarily as they relate to high-value items and homes. This includes items in the home that may require special coverage as well as the “toys” people acquire. Next we’ll discuss the liability exposures higher net worth individuals need to address, as this group tends to be a primary target for lawsuits. Finally, we’ll address home-based business-related risks people face and how they can protect themselves appropriately.

Professor Kristen MacKenzie: Retirement can be a time of great uncertainty, especially for those who aren’t emotionally ready for it. Because it is harder to “unretire” than it is to make a well-thought-out decision about retiring in the first place, this webinar will discuss how to help your clients through this decision process. We will examine the emotional transition to retirement, including a discussion of part-time employment and how it offers many retirees the opportunity to stay productive, achieve a sense of accomplishment, and even remain socially engaged, all while transitioning to an eventual full retirement. We will also explore ways to make semi-retirement work for clients who wish to work part-time strategies for managing both.

Professor Kirsten Waldrip: Only millionaires need estate planning, right? Wrong! With the estate tax exclusion amount being at $5.45 million in 2016, a small minority of people require estate planning for transfer tax purposes. However, this does not mean that estate planning is no longer necessary. On the contrary, the focus of estate planning for the “average Joe” has shifted to income tax planning, properly disposing of your estate, and wealth preservation. This webinar will discuss how to recognize and plan for income tax and non-tax estate planning goals and planning techniques to accomplish those goals.

Professor Cindy Shnaider: Middle-income retirees (those with incomes from $30,000 to $100,000) will, on average, retire with less than $100,000 in their retirement accounts—and some with no retirement savings at all. This lack of savings will require middle-income retirees to be more dependent on Social Security, equity in their homes, and working later into retirement. But does this constitute a crisis, and what solutions can be offered to these clients to counteract the grim statistics? This webinar will discuss some possible options for middle-income retirees, including budgeting, working later into retirement, and addressing income gaps.

Professor Tim Greer: Many clients have unconsciously retained risk by being unaware of insurance limitations. This webinar will take a look at common pitfalls that surface with the employment of household employees. Topics covered will include:
    • Liability exposures
    • Workers’ compensation – is it required?
    • Employment practice liability exposures
The second part of the webinar will review common exposures a client faces while participating in a charitable endeavor and serving on a board of directors/trustees. This session will not make you an expert in these areas, but will allow you to recognize issues a client might need to address with their insurance professional.

Professor Jason Hovde: The study of investor behavior is known as behavioral finance, and it has been gaining in momentum and importance. While traditional finance assumes that all investors are rational, behavioral finance takes into account the behavioral biases that can often taint an investor’s otherwise rational decision-making process. In this webinar you will learn how to identify and address various irrational biases in order to better understand and serve your clients.

Professor Jim Pasztor: Oftentimes portfolio management is handled as a standalone process, and is not really integrated into the entire financial planning process. If a client’s main focus is on short-term portfolio performance, then the adviser has not done an adequate job educating the client as to how portfolio management fits into the big picture of their overall financial plan. This webinar will help advisers position portfolio management as just one “piece” of the financial planning “pie,” and help both the adviser and client focus less on what the market is doing, especially in the short run, and more on the importance of a thoughtful overall portfolio management strategy as part of the client’s “big picture” financial plan.
